As a biotechnology company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing innovative medicines, this client's goal is to improve the care of individuals suffering from life-threatening diseases. Their success in developing transformative treatments for HIV, Hepatitis-C, and other dangerous pathogens led to a shortage of space at their discovery campus.

In order to provide additional laboratories, offices, and conference space for their Process Research and Analytical Operations departments, Flad programmed and designed an interior fit-out of a cold, dry shell. The resulting six-story, 190,000-square-foot facility and an adjacent 23,000-square-foot pilot plant accommodates up to 600 staff. Anticipating future expansion, office support spaces were designed with robust MEP systems to allow transformation into laboratory space when needed.

Flad also worked closely with the client's process engineering consultants to plan and design the laboratories and equipment suites in the pilot laboratory building.
