Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex

Visionary animal care and clinical research

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is focused on advancing global health and well-being for animals and humans alike. Located on a 13-acre site along the south edge of campus, three new veterinary hospital facilities benefit the College's mission by providing modern environments supporting excellence in education, clinical care and treatment, and interdisciplinary research involving clinical trials. The 164,000-square-foot David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex serves the distinct needs of different animal patients in separate equine, farm animal, and small animal hospital structures, two of which are certified LEED silver.

The design of each hospital establishes a team-oriented clinical learning environment for students in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Nursing programs, preparing graduates for a variety of careers in large and small animal private practice, agriculture-based and pharmaceutical industries, and other areas of the veterinary medical profession. Specialized emergency and surgical facilities, highly sophisticated MRI and CT imaging equipment, and special treatment and therapy spaces support the care and comfort of all animal patients while ensuring that students learn in a safe environment appropriate to the goal of graduating career-ready veterinary professionals.

Of integral importance is the ability of these new veterinary hospitals to facilitate innovative clinical trials research – a critical link in the public health network. Clinical faculty, working with other researchers, gather and analyze patient data to expand our understanding of diseases – including zoonotic diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans – as well as foster the development of new therapies. These collaborations result in the advancement of animal, human, and environmental health – a true One Health approach.
