120 beds in 120 hours
Based on an expanding population and the desire for additional on-island, state-of-the art medical services, The Medical City, a premier medical institution in the Philippines, planned a new private hospital campus in Guam. In order to bring beds on-line quickly, a week-long planning charette was held with all participants and members of the design and construction team. The goal, which was achieved, was to plan and design a 120-bed hospital in 120 hours. This innovative, real-time process of planning allowed all team members to be familiar with goals and processes upfront and cut out unnecessary steps and communication loopholes. This forced the team to collaboratively develop solutions that all would agree on, thus eliminating time for multiple approvals, presentations, and elaborate cost estimating steps.
