School of Medicine Ophthalmology Renovations

A catalyst for collaboration

The Department of Ophthalmology Emory Eye Center is a recognized leader in patient care, education, and research and is consistently named as one of the nation's best. Serving more than 120,000 patients annually, Emory's Eye Center provides quality patient care, educates and trains optical professionals, and conducts pioneering research into eye diseases.

In support of Emory Eye Center's continued success, Flad provided design services for the renovation of outdated research space within the Clinic Building B. Originally constructed in the 1980s, this facility required modern updates for the ophthalmology program to continue providing a best-in-class research environment.

The project created state-of-the-art wet laboratory research program space that meets current School of Medicine standards and departmental needs. The 10,000-square-foot, second-level renovation provides a central, open research lab with a high degree of transparency, collaboration among research groups, and a transformative research environment that supports research initiatives conducted by principal investigators and their teams; collateral office and support space; and enhanced, shared areas for collaboration. The upgraded spaces provide an elevated platform that supports critical research in ocular oncology and ophthalmic pathology in the Emory Eye Center.

A testament of Emory University's commitment to its faculty, staff, and students, the refreshed spaces also serve as a catalyst for collaboration as well as a significant recruitment and retention asset for the university.
