Taking flight

The design of the Ascendium Education Group's new headquarters gives the impression that the building is rising from the landscape, poised to take flight. The dynamic design reflects the organization's aspirational mission to help students overcome barriers and find success in pursuing higher education and workforce training. Flad provided a full suite of architectural services for the 63,000-square-foot, LEED Silver certified office building, including site selection, programming, planning, design, structural engineering, interior design, and landscape design.

The narrow and highly transparent structure extends east-west across the site, providing abundant opportunities to enjoy natural daylight and views throughout the facility. The front door welcomes staff and visitors into a light-filled lobby on the middle level, and exposed stairs to the upper and lower levels promote visibility and encourage staff to circulate and interact with colleagues.

Technology-driven capabilities and employee amenities support Ascendium's mission. Spaces include private and open offices, conference rooms, collaboration areas, fitness and locker facilities, and a café with a moveable wall that allows it to double as a training and seminar space.

The landscaping plan creates a courtyard that is protected on three sides, offering outdoor spaces for informal meetings and collaboration as well as pleasant views from inside the building.
