UGA School of Medicine Selects Flad to Design their New Medical School Building
The University of Georgia has selected Flad to design the new Medical School Building for the UGA School of Medicine. The new facility will be the school's first building project after the University System of Georgia Board of Regents officially established an independent School of Medicine at the University of Georgia in February of 2024.
The roughly 92,000-square-foot medical education and biomedical research facility will be constructed at UGA's Health Sciences Campus, located 10 minutes north of central campus. Approximately 67,000 square feet of the new building will be allocated to medical education, while the remaining 25,000 square feet will be dedicated to BSL-2 biomedical research open wet lab space with associated support rooms.
The School of Medicine will build upon the remarkable success of the Augusta University/UGA Medical Partnership, which has been educating physicians in Athens since 2010. As Georgia's flagship R1 research institution, UGA is uniquely positioned to address healthcare needs through world-class medical education, biomedical research, and community outreach.
The university has already broken ground on the new building and is targeting a completion date of late 2026.
