UF Health Celebrates Surgical Center Opening
University of Florida Health celebrates the opening of its 25,000-square-foot landmark surgical center for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and eye specialties in Gainesville, Florida. This highly anticipated project represents the culmination of years of planning to expand services to meet growing community needs.
UF Health Surgical Center – The Oaks supports the top-rated health system's ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and audiology practices with on-site radiology services, thereby expanding patient access to full MRIs, X-rays, and CT scans all under the same roof. The center completes phase two of UF Health The Oaks, a Flad-designed, 164,000-square-foot facility located in a former big-box retail space in the popular shopping mall, The Oaks. With the surgical center opening, patients can now have all their vital eye and ENT health needs met in one accessible location just off Interstate 75 – marking the capstone of UF Health's long-term strategy to make world-class, comprehensive services more accessible to patients throughout Florida and beyond.
Flad designed the award-winning, amenity-rich facility to enhance the patient experience by integrating patient-focused features such as welcoming, custom-designed artwork; abundant natural daylighting; color-coded wayfinding to help visually impaired patients navigate more easily; and a unique layout that prevents backlogs to encourage a seamless experience for patients, visitors, and staff. Co-locating three specialty practices with a lab, radiology, and OR in one facility prevents patients from having to travel around the area for various services. This efficiency benefits the care of patients, many of whom travel from rural Florida and as far as Georgia and Alabama to access this state-of-the-art facility.
