One of the largest developments in San Diego's growing research community officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 30. Designed by Flad, Torrey View by Breakthrough offers 520,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory and office space plus extensive landscaped social gathering areas on the 10-acre campus. The much-anticipated multitenant facility was 100 percent pre-leased before its opening.
Comprised of three research and development buildings and an amenity building, the campus includes a 400-seat conference center, a restaurant, bar, café, outdoor fire pits, pickle ball courts, fitness center, yoga studio, library, and many more amenities that support a healthy life science community.
The campus has generated local excitement as the uniquely designed facility establishes Breakthrough Properties' presence in one of the nation's thriving research hubs. Integrating nature and technology, Torrey View is designed to help meet the San Diego region's demand for life science spaces while inspiring interaction, collaboration, and innovation.
The exterior design reflects Torrey Pines' local geologic formations. Inspired by natural tessellation patterns, steeply graded window panels made of glass fiber reinforced concrete establish a dynamic signature envelope.
Whether inside the buildings, on the outdoor terraces, or gathering on the landscaped plaza, the campus is carefully designed to enhance the site's stunning views of the Pacific Ocean as well as the surrounding hills and canyons that span toward Torrey Pines State Beach.
Torrey View is certified LEED Gold and designed to achieve Fitwel certification.
