The Center for Health Design (CHD) has honored Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH)-Venice with a Platinum Touchstone Award, the highest honor for the successful use of evidence-based design (EBD). Flad partnered with SMH to master plan and design the greenfield hospital campus, which provides top-ranked medical and emergency services to a rapidly growing community.
The Touchstone Award recognizes the use of an EBD process to increase value, improve outcomes, and engage stakeholders. Submissions were judged based on their achievement across three touchstones of the EBD process: collaborate, evaluate, share. CHD will celebrate Touchstone Award recipients at the PDC Summit in Atlanta on March 11.
The five-story, 452,000-square-foot hospital offers a full slate of medical and surgical care. The hospital was designed to create a welcoming and comfortable experience for patients, visitors, and staff with careful consideration for the entirety of the patient journey, starting before entering the building.
