North Carolina State University - Plant Sciences Building

NC State Plant Sciences Building Featured in Metal Architecture Publication

The Flad-designed Plant Sciences Building at North Carolina State University is featured in the latest issue of Metal Architecture. The building was also honored last year with a Metal Construction Associate Design Award.

The facility is home to the North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative, whose mission is to improve the world through innovations that solve grand agricultural challenges. The interdisciplinary science hub connects experts from across campus in an environment supporting collaborative, team-based problem solving within the university as well as with corporate and government partners.

Representing the intersection of nature and technology in agriculture innovation, metal is used strategically, contrasting with traditional and earthy materials of terracotta, brick, and board-formed concrete side walls. A variety of metal building materials contribute to an expression of innovation including metal panels, sunshades, ceilings, exposed structural steel, and greenhouse framing.
