Flad Celebrates Topping Out of New MBARI R&D Facility

Members of the Flad team and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) recently celebrated the topping out of MBARI's new 31,900-square-foot Instrumentation Integration and Testing Facility. Flad planned and designed this facility, which is scheduled to open in 2024, as well as the adjacent Expedition Staging Building, which opened in 2022. They represent the institute's first new buildings in more than 20 years.

MBARI uses cutting-edge engineering technology to support biological, chemical, and physical science research in ocean environments from the surface to the deep seafloor. With science, robotics, and instrument engineering labs, this new facility will feature flexible research spaces that serve as a proving ground for scientists and engineers to assemble and test new equipment. Also included are conference rooms and large multimedia rooms with waterfront views.
