Deborah Smith Named ACHA Fellow, President-Elect-Elect

Flad Associate Principal Deborah Smith has officially been named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA). At the recent Summer Leadership Summit where the Fellows Class of 2024 was honored, it was also announced that Deborah has been selected ACHA president-elect-elect. She is currently the secretary and treasurer on the ACHA Board of Regents and will serve a 1-year term as president beginning in 2026.

Deborah has been an ACHA member since 2010 and has been a member and co-chair/board liaison of numerous committees throughout her time with ACHA. ACHA's Board of Regents holds the honor of Fellowship for those that demonstrate the highest standards of the profession, including remarkable contributions to the healthcare design field through admirable leadership, innovative excellence, and consistent involvement in ACHA.

With over 35 years of planning and design experience, Deborah has dedicated her career to collaborating with public health facilities to enhance the care environment and implement cutting-edge technologies. Having served as the director of planning at a major academic medical center, she understands the critical link between a healthcare organization's business plan and the facility plan required for implementation.

Deborah is the director of Flad's Tampa office and works closely with clients to achieve an innovative, functional, and user-friendly environment. Her leadership experience extends to the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Health Guidelines Review Committee through which she has been instrumental in developing three editions of the Facility Guidelines.
