The Center for Innovative Drug Research Honored with ISPE Award
We are pleased to announce the Flad-designed Center for Innovative Drug Research (CIDR) has been recognized by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) 2021 Facility of the Year Award program, with a Special Recognition Award for Operational Agility: COVID-19 Impact.
The new CIDR brings together multiple research groups into a single, 365,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that supports world-class research, fosters a community of collaboration, and inspires life-changing discoveries. Separated into three research wings connected by a shared spine, the four-story CIDR houses drug safety evaluation, structural chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and a variety of biology laboratories, including discovery virology, clinical virology, biomarker sciences, biologics, target biology, immunology, and core services.
From its inception, the CIDR was intended as a place to expedite discovery, where a critical mass of diverse researchers come together to generate solutions to some of the world's greatest challenges. Conceived as more than merely a "bricks and mortar building," the Center creates a distinct home for its community of scientists. Researchers were highly involved in all aspects of the Center's design and construction, integrating directly into the design team.
Awarded in multiple categories, the Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) recognize state-of-the-art projects utilizing new, innovative technologies to improve the quality of products, reduce the cost of producing high-quality medicines, and demonstrate advances in project delivery.
In its statement of award, ISPE cited the facility's agility in adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic and assisting in bringing forward important therapies to address the virus. A detailed description of the project and the award is available here.
Flad is grateful to be recognized by ISPE with this honor.
