Gateway of Pacific Phase Five Achieves LEED Gold

Reinforcing a campus-wide commitment to sustainable design and energy efficiency, BioMed Realty's Gateway of Pacific phase five buildings have achieved LEED Gold certification. Flad master planned the 22-acre life science campus in South San Francisco with a vision for the campus to expand to over 1.8 million square feet, establishing one of the world's largest life science developments.

Consisting of two buildings totaling nearly 296,000 square feet, phase five is elevated 40 feet above the main campus. The upper and lower campuses are connected by a signature stair leading to a large courtyard-like plaza, which offers landscaped social spaces to unite this community of scientists and innovators.

The project met the thresholds to attain all regional priority credits, which emphasize sustainability features that are the most important in the area. Analysis of site plantings demonstrated a 10 percent increase in carbon sequestration over a baseline site design. The project also achieved a 30 percent greenhouse gas emissions savings over a baseline project, and 34 percent of materials, by cost, utilized raw material sourcing practices with lower environmental impacts
